How we're run

The Campaign to Protect Rural England is a registered charity (number 1089685). CPRE is also a company limited by guarantee registered in England (number 4302973), and the registered office is at 128 Southwark Street, London, SE1 0SW. The management and administration of CPRE is the responsibility of the Trustees, who sit on our Trustee Board.

This Trustee Board meets at least four times a year and comprises a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Treasurer and five other Board members, all of whom serve a maximum of two three year terms.

We are also directed and guided by our General Meetings, held at least once a year. One of these meetings approves our Annual Review and appoints the President and other Board members.

The policies we advocate and the campaigns we mount are guided by our Policy Committee, which is a sub-committee of the Board and also meets several times a year. It is comprised of people with expertise in the fields CPRE is concerned with and key volunteers from the organisation.

The national organisation is based in an office in central London with about 50 salaried staff, directed by a Chief Executive. CPRE also has a small number of staff working at the regional level servicing its nine regional groups, which are constitutionally part of the national organisation. These groups are comprised of representatives from every branch within the region and engage in the increasingly influential regional level of decision making. The groups' boundaries mirror those of the Government's regional offices.

The great majority of the income which pays for our work is made up of the subscriptions paid by our members, of donations from supporters and legacies.

Most of our local county branches are separate, independent charities. CPRE operates as a partnership between these branches and the national organisation, sharing resources, information and aims. Membership income is shared between branches and the national organisation.
