Light pollution problems – you told us about
We had over a 100 forms completed on our website. Here are just a few of the comments.
Problem site:
Tesco Superstore
24hr illumination from offices and several 40' high Tesco signs. At 3am this morning the birds and other wildlife are still awake. So bright I don't need the light on to go to the bathroom. My house is over 400 yards from the building.
Nottinghamshire
Problem site:
Hademore Crossing
A high powered floodlight fitted to the side of a signal box at the level crossing is aligned poorly. Instead of illuminating the crossing it shines directly in the eyes of motorists approaching and using the crossing.
Staffordshire
Problem site:
The Freeport Designer Village
The Freeport Designer Village in Braintree has several of these huge (some 80-100ft?) white light-up towers advertising the location of the village. They were erected when the new cinema opened, but they can be seen for miles!
They really do light up the sky, damage the landscape and as I can see them for miles, definitely intrude into my garden!
Essex
Problem site:
JDR Cable Systems Ltd
About 10 high intensity (yellow) security lights are on continously throughout the hours of darkness. They illuminate a yard about the size of a football pitch. The entire site is surrounded by security fencing.
The number and intensity of the lights and their design means there is a constant yellow glow in the sky that can be seen for miles around in an area that was previously pitch black at night.
With high-security fencing surrounding the site, the number and the intensity of the lights seems totally unnecessary and shows a complete disregard for the countryside in which the facility is located.
Cambridgeshire
Problem site:
Princes Gardens flats
The flats in question have a security light that beams light into the sky and everywhere, not towards the ground as it should, affecting my view of the stars. Why can't they introduce more modern lighting that doesn't effect the problem?
Peterborough
Problem site:
Chestnut House Hotel
High-level, high-intensity lighting that shines out unnecessarily across open fields.
It comes on even before dusk so that there is little opportunity even to enjoy twilight. It remains on all through the night so there is no time of natural darkness.
I have accepted security need for customers, but why should every room in my house be lit up through the night by these lights on the edge of open countryside?
Pontefract
