Air traffic in the UK has trebled over the past 20 years and is continuing to rise. Aviation causes 13% of the UK’s contribution to climate change and its contribution is growing fast. The Government is committed to providing for this huge increase in flying to continue.
CPRE fears this threatens to land a disaster on the countryside while making runaway climate change unstoppable. We are calling for an urgent and independent review of aviation policy as we believe it to be as scientifically illiterate as it is democratically challenged.
