A vision for the future of farming

Four out of five people surveyed believe that farmers have a responsibility to look after the landscape and wildlife for future generations, according to a recent survey by CPRE.

Ahead of the publication of the National Planning Policy Framework, CPRE sets out why the finished document must recognise the intrinsic value of unprotected countryside; define 'sustainable development'; encourage the re-use of brownfield sites and promote affordable rural housing in the right place.

Protecting the wider countryside

CPRE has launched a groundbreaking report with new maps showing that 55 per cent of England’s countryside could be at increased risk as a consequence of the Government’s reforms of the planning system.

Green light for HS2 - more study needed

On 10 January 2012, the Government announced its decision to proceed with High Speed 2 (HS2). While the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) welcomes the Government's commitment to invest in rail as an alternative to road building or air travel, there is a long way to go before we can be sure that HS2 will not have an unacceptable impact on the landscape and local communities.
