Victory as mega dairy scrapped

CPRE is celebrating following success in our fight to stop Nocton Dairies building Britain’s first ever mega dairy.

Nocton Dairies claimed they were withdrawing their application for a 3,770 cow dairy farm because of objections made by the Environment Agency.

However, this is a huge victory for rural campaigners and the alliance partners with which CPRE joined forces (including The World Society for the Protection of Animals, Soil Association, 38 Degrees, Friends of the Earth and Compassion in World Farming).

Although Nocton are careful to say they have not bowed to public pressure, this battle has made it clear that the British public does not want to see US-style factory farming of livestock in the UK.

The proposals by Nocton could have started a trend in the UK that would have threatened the livelihoods of traditional dairy farmers and changed forever the distinctive and highly valued character of our landscape.

This is a huge victory for rural campaigners.
