Natural Capital Committee Annual Report: CPRE reaction

9 February 2017

With the most recent report of the Government’s Natural Capital Committee (NCC) launched this week, CPRE called on the Government to implement its recommendations.

Shaun Spiers, chief executive of the Campaign to Protect Rural England, said:

“It’s a sad fact that many people’s local green space is under threat from development, with encroaching light, noise and air pollution damaging the health and wellbeing of whole communities. To remedy this state of affairs, the Government must implement the recommendations of the NCC’s report.

“By enhancing natural capital through statutory measures, investment and a new agricultural policy, the Government can fulfil its commitment to ‘conserve and enhance our natural environment so that this remains the most beautiful country in the world’. This report cements the NCC’s role as a much-needed champion for the environment, and following its recommendations will help ensure that the 25 Year Plan for the Environment delivers a genuine step-change in Government action.”

Improving Natural Capital: An Assessment of Progress makes a series of recommendations to Government for improving and protecting England’s natural capital.
