1.    This summer sees the arrival of the 2012 Olympics and celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee. There are lots of opportunities for events that are likely to attract publicity. Could your branch or group get involved and run a local event?

2.    The Olympic Torch route has been announced and lots of people are expected to line the route between 19 May and 27 June. But what will they do once the torch has passed? To find out if the Olympic Torch route is going near your Branch or District group, click on the web-link below and search your region: http://l2012.cm/jmtkjT

3.    Our patron, Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her Diamond Jubilee on June 5. Celebrations are being organised throughout the double bank holiday between Sat 2 and Tues 5 of June and  include the lighting of beacons throughout the country. http://bit.ly/wEGfjz

4.    The Woodland Trust are offering free tree planting packs as part of their Jubilee celebrations. Community groups can apply for trees to be delivered in March or Nov 2012. For more information, please visit the Woodland Trust website

5.    National Volunteers’ Week, always a good time to thank volunteers, get hold of new ones and give awards, runs from Friday 1 June to the 7th, coinciding with both the Jubilee and the torch relay.

6.    If you do decide to run an event this year, why not publicise it here www.wherecanwego.com or contact Discovering Places, one of the major cultural projects of the Olympics, as they may be able to flag your event. For more information, go to http://www.discoveringplaces.co.uk/

7.    We would love to know if you decide to run an event, so please do send a brief outline of your event, along with when and where you are running it to the Branch Development Team – 020 7981 2859 DevelopmentTeam@cpre.org.uk.

About CPRE circulars

CPRE Circulars are National Office’s key method of communicating national activities to CPRE groups – we appreciate that you will not always be able to implement the actions suggested but your co-operation is appreciated and feedback is welcome.

The e-circular is sent by email to the main contact in every CPRE branch and regional group. If you are in any doubt about how to distribute or follow-up this or any other CPRE Circular, please do not hesitate to contact the author for further advice.

Please do not distribute this circular externally as it contains information on how to access the Local Group Area of the website (username: visitor, password: gateway).
