1. National Appeals
National Office and Branches raise a substantial amount of money from our respective cash appeals programmes. It is important that we co-ordinate our efforts to maximise income and prevent appeals overlapping. Here are the approximate dates of the national appeals, to help you to plan your own programme:
• New Year Appeal 29th February 2012 (incl. Our Countryside leaflet)
• Spring Appeal 16th April 2012
• Branch Appeal 3rd September 2012 (Branches need to opt- in)
• Winter Appeal 22nd October 2012
2. The Branch Appeal (opt-in) or the Branch Window
Branches that opted into the 2011 Branch Appeal have now received their share of the income and we’re delighted that this appeal was a great success. We strongly encourage you to opt-in to the Branch Appeal this year - it’s a great way to raise donations for your branch without any of the hard work! Branches receive 100% of their income less costs. It will mail around the 3rd September 2012 and we will prompt you to opt-in nearer the time. If you want more information please contact Laurie McPherson on lauriem@cpre.org.uk
We urge any branches that prefer to mail their own appeals to do so during September to avoid clashing with other activity, and maximise your income. Please mail your appeal as early in September as you can. If you require any advice on this, Juliet Walker (julietw@cpre.org.uk) is happy to help.
3. Raffles
CPRE National Office will send 2 raffles this year:
• Summer Raffle - 18th June 2012 - draw date 21st August 2012
• Winter Raffle – 30th November 2012 - draw date 24th January 2013
Tickets will be ready nearer the time and we will prompt you to request branch tickets at that point. Don’t forget that branches receive 75% of the income for all tickets they sell – a simple way to raise funds for your branch.
4. Company and Trust Fundraising
Please may I remind regional groups, branches and district groups that they should consult with National Office before applying to companies and charitable trusts for funds. This is crucial to prevent duplicate applications and to maximise income from these sources. Please contact Dorothy Leiper (dorothyl@cpre.org.uk) or Atul Srivastava (atuls@cpre.org.uk) for more advice.
5. Membership Leaflets
New membership leaflets are currently being completed and should be with branches in early March. We are sending 200 to each branch. I apologise for the delay in circulating these. Meanwhile updated membership forms have been circulated to recruit members onto the new membership product.
For info only, they can be viewed here http://www.cpre.org.uk/how-you-can-help/join-or-donate/join-us/item/2565-you-can-help-save-the-countryside-from-as-little-as-three-pounds-per-month, but please contact Juliet Walker on julietw@cpre.org.uk, if you would like the branch coded versions (previously circulated) to use. This way, you’ll receive 100% of the membership in the first 3 years.
6. Telemarketing
For information, we are just about to complete a telemarketing campaign to convert cash donors and ‘occasional’ supporters (e.g. online campaigners, enquirers) to membership. We hope to generate about 300 members.
7. New Membership Development programme
Following the Supporter Review, we are now developing a new rolling campaign to convert members onto monthly payments and upgrade their level of giving and reactivate lapsed members where possible. We are appointing a telemarketing agency to work with us, and we will communicate more details over the next couple of months. We are confident that this investment will start to grow membership income. If branches have any queries regarding this, please contact me (lindaa@cpre.org.uk).
8. Supporter Recruitment
We are currently developing a recruitment strategy to grow membership numbers in 2012 and this will be presented to the Board in March for approval. We anticipate that this will include ways to work in partnership with branches to attract new members. We will consult on and communicate these plans as appropriate over the next few months. Meanwhile, if branches are producing their own recruitment materials and would like any advice please contact me on lindaa@cpre.org.uk
9. Event
For information, we are holding an event – a Countryside Celebration - hosted by Bill Bryson in central London on the 22nd February. The purpose of the event is to thank and get to know some of our most generous and longest serving supporters.
10. Other communications

About CPRE circulars
CPRE Circulars are National Office’s key method of communicating national activities to CPRE groups – we appreciate that you will not always be able to implement the actions suggested but your co-operation is appreciated and feedback is welcome.
The e-circular is sent by email to the main contact in every CPRE branch and regional group. If you are in any doubt about how to distribute or follow-up this or any other CPRE Circular, please do not hesitate to contact the author for further advice.
Please do not distribute this circular externally as it contains information on how to access the Local Group Area of the website (username: visitor, password: gateway).
