Making localism work for the countryside

A radical reform of the planning system is a significant part of the Government’s ‘localism’ agenda. The Government wants to empower local people in decisions on planning where they live but it is vital that this is within a strong national framework that protects the countryside.

We want planning to be fairer, engage communities, protect the countryside and regenerate our towns and villages. Our planning charter sets out the improvements we believe will make a reformed planning system truly successful.
