Six National Parks and 13 AONBs already contain pylons. National Grid is now considering new pylons in the Snowdonia National Park and a further three AONBs.

CPRE, the Campaign for National Parks, Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales and the National Association for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty are calling for a long-term plan to dismantle the three lines owned by National Grid which disrupt our countryside the most. These lines stretch over 350 miles of countryside altogether.

We believe the lines should be removed and then either replaced with underground or undersea cables, or re-routed across another area. If some new lines do have to be installed, we are pressing National Grid and the new Infrastructure Planning Commission to ensure that they are done in the least damaging manner. We are also urging the Government regulator Ofgem to cover this in its Transmission Price Control Review.
