Budget 2015 – Land Commission

Following measures announced in the Budget statement today Matt Thomson, head of planning at the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), comments:

“CPRE welcomes the Chancellor’s announcement in the Budget that a Land Commission will be set up in Greater Manchester, which CPRE called for after the Government announced the creation of such a body in London.  By identifying and bringing forward publicly-owned brownfield sites, these Land Commissions will help to provide much needed housing and other development, while simultaneously improving the environment of these cities and reducing pressure on their surrounding countryside.  We call on the Government to roll out this initiative to other places as part of their commitment to improving understanding of the availability of brownfield land across the country.”
