Meet Our Trustees – Emily Johnson

It’s time to meet the faces behind CPRE Surrey. From our trustees and partners to our all-important volunteers, we’ll be bringing you more information about the people who are standing up for the Surrey countryside and helping to shape its future.

First up is our youngest trustee, Emily Johnson, who joined us last summer. Since joining, Emily has brought fresh ideas, enthusiasm and a new perspective to the organisation. It’s inspiring to see young people becoming a voice for the countryside and playing an active role in protecting the places they care about.

Despite her busy university schedule, we caught up with Emily to find out more about her, what inspired her to get involved with CPRE Surrey, and her hopes for the future of our countryside.

Please could you tell us a little about yourself and your role at CPRE Surrey?

I am a law student at Royal Holloway, University of London with a strong interest in environmental protection. At CPRE Surrey, I support work that promotes the protection and sustainability of Surrey’s countryside, helping to raise awareness and contribute to ongoing initiatives.

How did you first get involved with CPRE Surrey?

I first got involved with CPRE Surrey last summer, when I was looking for ways to contribute more actively to environmental causes within my local community.

What’s your professional or personal background?

I am currently an undergraduate law student, aspiring to complete a master’s degree in environmental law and ultimately pursue a career as an environmental lawyer.

Why are you passionate about protecting Surrey’s countryside?

Surrey’s countryside is incredibly beautiful and plays an important role in supporting people’s mental wellbeing. Protecting these spaces ensures that future generations can continue to benefit from them in the same way.

What motivated you to become a trustee for CPRE Surrey?

I wanted to take a more active role in protecting the environment and contribute meaningfully to an organisation that works to preserve the countryside I care about.

What’s one thing people might be surprised to know about you?

My all-time favourite film is The Lorax. Although it seems light-hearted, it carries an important message about environmental responsibility, which really resonates with me.

When you’re not working to protect the countryside, how do you like to spend your time?

Outside of my environmental interests, I spend a lot of time reading, which helps me relax and broaden my perspective.

What’s one achievement or initiative at CPRE Surrey that you’re proud of?

I am proud to be part of CPRE Surrey’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about the importance of protecting local green spaces and promoting sustainable development across the county.

If you could give one message to members or supporters, what would it be?

Even a small amount of support for CPRE can make a meaningful difference, every contribution helps to protect and preserve our countryside for the future.

Do you have a favourite local spot in Surrey that you love?

My favourite spot in Surrey is Box Hill. I spent a lot of time there growing up, and it remains a place I associate with both natural beauty and personal memories.
