AONB proposed for the Great Ouse Valley

10th May 2018

The Great Ouse Valley is a 69 sq km area between Earith and the Huntingdon Racecourse. This distinct landscape is home to great flood meadows, large lakes, wildlife sites and idyllic footpaths.

In 2013 CPRE Cambridgeshire and Peterborough supported the application to Natural England to designate the Great Ouse Valley an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). However, decreasing funding and resources at Natural England mean that a decision cannot be made for some years.

The Great Ouse Valley Trust has been set up to champion the Great Ouse Valley, to raise awareness of its value and benefits, and to ensure that it is properly recognised both in Huntingdonshire and wider Cambridgeshire and East Anglia. CPRE continues to support this work – see our letter of support below. We also believe that it is important that Natural England is properly resourced to enable to it carry out this important work.
