Dark skies are a feature of a quiet and tranquil countryside.

Unfortunately, artificial light doesn’t respect boundaries. It can spread for miles. Light pollution not only limits our views of dark skies, but also disrupts wildlife’s natural patterns.

CPRE has been campaigning for policies to reduce light pollution since the 1990s and we run a citizen-science star count each year.

How far do you have to go to find a truly dark sky?

Use our interactive maps to find the best places near you to escape light pollution and enjoy the wonder of a starry sky.
