The issues:

Rural rail can revitalise the countryside

Reviltalising rural railways

Green light for HS2 - more study needed

On 10 January 2012, the Government announced its decision to proceed with High Speed 2 (HS2). While the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) welcomes the Government's commitment to invest in rail as an alternative to road building or air travel, there is a long way to go before we can be sure that HS2 will not have an unacceptable impact on the landscape and local communities.
