What we do

Campaigning for the countryside for the benefit of us all

We campaign for a sustainable future for the English countryside, a vital but undervalued environmental, economic and social asset to the nation. We highlight threats and promote positive solutions.

What we've achieved

80 years of success

Highlights include:

1947 | The Town and Country Planning Act
The Act achieved many of CPRE's ambitions for planning in the countryside and laid the foundations of the planning system we still use today.
> 1940's

1949 | National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949
The Act paved the way for National Parks after CPRE was invited to give evidence-in-chief to the National Parks Committee.
> 1940's

1979 | Laurence Olivier Radio 4 appeal raises £10,000
Laurence Olivier made an impassioned appeal on behalf of CPRE, calling for listeners to cherish the English countryside and support CPRE's work.

Our vision and values

A beautiful, tranquil and diverse countryside

CPRE wants a beautiful, tranquil and diverse countryside that everyone can value and enjoy; a working countryside that enriches our quality of life, as well as providing us with crucial natural resources.
