At the Campaign to Protect Rural England, we’ve been campaigning to protect the English countryside for more than 90 years. We’ve had some great successes over the years, such as:
- The Government pledged 90% of suitable brownfield sites will have planning permission by 2020.
- Our research revealed a colossal 275,000 houses are now planned for our Green Belt, providing the evidence we needed to launch a national campaign to get the Government to do more to protect it.
- The 5p levy for plastic bags we campaigned for has led to an 80% drop in usage.
- Our campaigning helped secure government funding of £2.2 billion to get brownfield sites prepared for development over the next five years.
But we couldn't have done any of this without our valued supporters, who help out in all kinds of different ways. If you want to take a stand for the English countryside, please consider supporting our work.
Here are some ideas for ways you can get involved.
Every year, we run three appeals focussed on a single issue that has come to the forefront of our attention. Through these appeals, we raise money to get right to the heart of the matter and hold the Government to account to ensure your voices are heard. We pride ourselves on framing local issues within the national agenda. Our latest appeal is tackling the Housing White Paper's biggest threat to the countryside - over-inflated housing targets.
CPRE is a membership organisation with currently 40,000 members around England. You can become a member of CPRE for as little as £3 a month and do your part. Members not only get to contribute to our work, but they also receive discounts at more than 200 fantastic countryside attractions, get money off at Cotsword Outdoor and receive regular copies of our fondly regarded Countryside Voice magazine.
Your generosity helps us continue to do what we do, but you don’t have to become a member to support the cause. One-off donations are welcomed all-year round and you can rest assured that we will put your money to good use.
Our monthly Campaigns Update newsletter goes to tens of thousands of people every month, full of news and updates from CPRE. You’ll be among the first to hear about our latest campaigns, achievements and stories from around the country, as well as information about how to get involved.
CPRE has local branches covering every county in England and they are critical to our success as they are the ‘eyes and ears’ of our work. Without our branches, we wouldn’t know half as much as we do about what is going on across our beautiful, living countryside. Behind each branch is a dedicated team of volunteers helping CPRE achieve its aims. Why not take a leap of faith and be a part of it?
