Andy Ladell

Andy Ladell has been volunteering with Friends of the Lake District since October 2022. During this time he has become more and more involved in our work and over the last year has done a whopping 180 hours of volunteering with us, 600 over the last 3.5 years. He began by joining our regular work parties on our land helping with tasks such as woodland maintenance, learning the art of dry stone walling, path clearance, and tree and hedge planting. He volunteered to drive the Friends vehicle to sites for us, helping move equipment and volunteers. He’s completed training in identification of birds, plants, lichens and bryophytes so he can help us survey our land and record species. These are added to the public database at the Cumbria Biological Data Centre in Carlisle. He has become such an invaluable member of the team that he now helps with pre planning work for us and aspires to help us record veteran trees and help set up a remote GIS recording system so we can record issues, species etc directly onto the computer whilst on site. Andy does everything with good humour and friendliness towards all our volunteer colleagues, gives so much of his time and has become an invaluable member of the team. We are all extremely grateful to Andy for the time, enthusiasm and experience he brings to the team.
