Young Activists Campaigning for the Countryside
Alongside his studies, Jacky Lee Roberts volunteered with CPRE, supporting our campaigns with simple online actions.
Through their online actions, our group of Online Campaigns Activists help us to champion critical environmental issues including the climate emergency, renewable energy, biodiversity and sustainable transport.
Jacky found the role through his university’s volunteering service.
Before the general election in July 2024, Jacky promoted CPRE’s manifesto to fellow students and shared a pledge with his local parliamentary candidates. ‘This called for new targets to be published for affordable housing in rural areas, alongside change in the ways in which issues with short-term lets are tackled,’ he explains.
CPRE is relaunching the online campaigns activist role to amplify younger voices on environmental issues, upskill campaigners across the country and enable individuals to contribute to the future of their areas. We welcome input from people with many different experiences of the environment and rural places to help us work together towards a thriving countryside for everyone.
As CPRE’s Public Affairs and Advocacy Officer Rosella Cottam says, ‘In the run-up to last year’s general election, we wanted to amplify young voices and diverse perspectives in campaigning. Nearly a year later, it’s important to continue this work so that everyone can have a say in decisions affecting their communities and the future of our environment’.
