Richard Alvin

Richard Alvin is a serial entrepreneur, media executive and one of the UK’s leading voices on small business. As founder and Group Managing Director of Capital Business Media (CBM), he leads the publishing house behind Business Matters – the UK’s largest-distributed monthly SME title – alongside Travelling For BusinessProperty Portfolio InvestorStay & Improve, and the fast-growing electric mobility platform EV Powered. 

A vocal champion of the renewable energy transition and the electrification of transport, Richard sits at the editorial helm of EV Powered and is currently converting “Lottie the Landy”, his 1966 ex-RAF Series II Land Rover, into a fully electric classic, a real-world test bed for accessible, sustainable EV technology. 

Beyond publishing, Richard is chairman of SME research firm Trends Research, an active angel investor, non-executive director and sought-after awards judge, including for the Business Champion Awards and the Northern Digital Awards. A former adviser to the UK Government on small business, he is Honorary Teaching Fellow and Entrepreneur in Residence at Lancaster University, a past London Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year, and a Freeman of the City of London.
