Allan McNab – 2024 Trustee Awards

Allan McNab is a 2024 CPRE Trustee Award winner, nominated by CPRE Hertfordshire for his commitment to protecting the Hertfordshire countryside, and specifically for his service as a highly effective branch Chair. Find out more about why Alan was nominated here.

‘We are nominating Allan for a ‘special trustee’ award to recognise his commitment to CPRE Hertfordshire after coming forward to be Chair for our charity for the past three years when there was no successor.

When the previous Chair came to the end of his term, we had no succession candidate and Allan agreed to become Chair until the charity could recruit someone else. This turned out to be considerably longer than he expected (September 2021 to October 2024).

During this time, Allan has effectively steered the charity out of the pandemic and overseen the organisation through a period of change in the way our charity works. This includes:

• A pronounced shift in our campaigning, with much more direct involvement with community groups across the county and greater participation in planning appeals and inquiries, with resulting campaign successes
• Maintaining strong financial discipline and stability to ensure the charity remains in good financial health
• Building a strong team of trustees, staff and volunteers
• And ensuring good governance: conducting a governance review and updating the charity constitution to ensure best practices are in place.

Allan is pleased to now be passing the baton on to CPRE Hertfordshire’s new Chair, Peter Waine, and will continue to serve on the Board as a regular trustee.’
