On the Edge map submission guidelines

Thanks for getting involved with our On the Edge interactive map. We’re really looking forward to hearing your stories about the countryside near you – and why it matters. When filled with stories from all over the country, this map sends a strong message about just how valued the countryside around our towns and cities really is. We want as many people as possible to share their stories of special places on the map. We ask that you follow some simple guidelines to make sure your submission stays on track and aligns with our campaign.

Moderation

We reserve the right to moderate and monitor this interactive map. When you submit a story, it will go through a review process, whereby CPRE checks that the content aligns with our submission guidelines below. If it does, we will approve your story and you will see it appear on the map shortly. If it breaches the guidelines, we reserve the right to reject your story and it will not appear on the map.

Show the value

We’re looking for stories that show the value of your local countryside. It’s okay to feel passionate about protecting it, but we won’t accept entries that are just, or overwhelmingly, rants. We want to see why you care about this area; its important qualities; and what it means to you. We will approve entries that mention the pressures your special place is under as long as the focus is pointing to its value.

Be respectful

Personal attacks, harassment, or hate speech will not be tolerated and we have a completely zero tolerance stance to bullying or discrimination of any kind. We will reject stories that are:

  • Abusive or threatening
  • Bullying
  • Offensive
  • Hateful, discriminatory or inciting hate (e.g. racist, ableist, homophobic, Islamophobic, transphobic, antisemitic, xenophobic, sexist)
  • Obscene, defamatory, or insulting
  • Unlawful (e.g. defamatory, fraudulent, or infringing intellectual property)
  • Intentionally misleading, or harmful mis/disinformation
  • Spam or a repeated nuisance

Stay truthful

Please fact-check your contributions where appropriate, and avoid posting anything that could be considered fraudulent, suspicious, or misleading. Unintentional factual errors are fine, but we reserve the right to reject submissions that contain harmful mis/disinformation.

AI and bots

An increasing amount of online content is not human i.e. deepfake, AI-generated or bots. We will not approve entries that are not ‘real’ or entirely AI-generated.

Stay on topic

Please refrain from submitting spam content such as self-promotion, link-baiting, clickbait, irrelevant links, advertising, or anything along these lines. And remember, you’re not writing to CPRE specifically, you’re writing to everyone.

Reporting inappropriate stories

We strive to keep our map welcoming, but if you see inappropriate content that we have missed, you can report it directly to us by email at info@cpre.org.uk.

Protect your privacy

Please avoid sharing personal information like phone numbers, addresses, or email addresses in your story. If you need to contact us regarding private matters, please email us at info@cpre.org.uk. If you have a particular issue relating to planning applications or developments where you live, you should contact your local CPRE branch. The stories on the map do not necessarily represent CPRE’s views. We will use the data in-line with our Privacy Policy: https://www.cpre.org.uk/privacy-policy/ We hold and manage your details in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018. We won’t share, sell or swap your information with other organisations for their own marketing purposes. Please read our Privacy Policy for more information.

  • Tell us why you value your chosen space – what makes it special to you and your community?
  • How do you use the space? Do others use it too?

  • What are your hopes for it in the future?
