Local plans set out the long-term development strategy for an area and are an important way for the public to be involved in shaping the future of the places where they live.

Our May 2020 ‘What’s the plan?’ report is a comprehensive assessment of local plan coverage across England. Our research shows that most local authorities are not operating under an up-to-date plan currently and puts forward recommendations for how the government can work towards a genuinely plan-led system by the end of 2023.
